What is the “food waste” to put in Garbage-in?
It is some parts of "food" that you want to throw away.
Place a small garbage can in the kitchen sink where it will not get wet,
and separate the food waste into it while cooking.
Some things such as bones, shells and seeds cannot be decomposed in Garbage-in,
but you can take them out later, so there is no need to be overly concerned about this.
When you are using Garbage-in for the first time,
we recommend that you put in a small amount (up to about 300g) of food waste
until you get used to Garbage-in.
Putting in about 200g to 300g every day will decompose it most efficiently.
The amount of food waste per day should be up to about 500g.
If you continue to put in a lot of food waste,
the decomposition will not keep up and the inner bag will become full.
When the bamboo powder reaches about 80% of the inner bag,
leave it for a while, and resume when the volume has decreased.
How to use *Please prepare a trowel.
1. Dig a hole in the bamboo powder in the inner bag with a trowel,
put the food waste in, and cover it with the bamboo powder. 2. Close the inner bag and turn it around once or twice.
3. Close the outer cover. That's all you need to do on a regular basis.
Garbage-in relies on the power of
nature to decompose food waste
The condition of bamboo powder varies depending on the season
and the amount and contents of food waste.
In cold season, there are almost no insects, but decomposition is slow. In hot season, food waste decomposes smoothly, but insects are more likely to appear.
If insects appear, you need to deal with them each time.
It's best to find them early, so keep an eye out when it gets hot.
There may be times when you need to deal with things other than your regular work,
but we hope you will be able to use Garbage-in effectively, including those times.
Placement Place it in a well-ventilated place such as under eaves or on balcony
where it is not directly exposed to rain or snow.
It can be installed outdoors,
but continuous exposure to direct sunlight may reduce the lifespan of the cover.
An ideal location is indoors where you can use a screen door,
such as a sunroom or earthen floor near the kitchen.
The size of the Garbage-in is 44cm wide x 36cm deep x 37cm high.
You will also need space in front and above to work.
Estimated period of use Bamboo powder
Depending on the total amount and contents of food waste you put in,
the bamboo powder can be used for about 3 months (at 500g/day)
to 1 year (at 150g/day). This is just a guideline.
When the food waste becomes difficult to decompose,
please replace the bamboo powder with new one and start again.
The old bamboo powder can be used as compost.
Inner bag
Although it is easy to get dirty with food waste, this does not affect its use.
Please replace it every few years.
Cover
If a hole, a tear, or frayed seams appear, it will not be usable normally.
*The cover can be replaced, but we do not currently sell covers separately.
Thank you for your understanding.
