How to Use Garbage-in
What kind of “food waste” should be put into Garbage-in?
Put the food scraps you would normally throw away into Garbage?in.
Prepare a small container for food waste and keep it near your kitchen sink where it won’t get wet.
While cooking, simply decide which scraps to place in the container.
Some items--such as bones, shells, and large seeds--do not decompose well in Garbage-in.
However, you can remove them later, so there is no need to separate everything perfectly from the beginning.
How much food waste should you add?
When using Garbage-in for the first time, start with a small amount (up to about 300 g)
until you get used to how it works.
Adding 200-300 g per day allows the microorganisms to decompose the waste most efficiently.
Try to keep the daily amount within 500 g.
If you add too much, decomposition will not keep up and the inner bag will fill up quickly.
When the bamboo powder reaches about 80% of the inner bag, stop adding food waste for a while.
Once the volume decreases, you can resume adding waste.
How to use
*Please prepare a trowel.
1. Dig a small hole in the bamboo powder inside the inner bag using a trowel.
Put the food waste into the hole and cover it with the bamboo powder.
2. Close the inner bag and rotate it once or twice.
3. Close the outer cover.

Placement
Garbage-in is easier to use when kept indoors, such as in a sunroom or a dirt-floor entry area with a screen door.
If kept outdoors, place it under the eaves or on a balcony where it is protected from heavy rain and snow.
Choose a well-ventilated location near your kitchen to match your cooking workflow.
You will also need some space in front and above the unit for daily operation.
Garbage-in measures 44 cm (W) × 36 cm (D) × 37 cm (H).
*Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may shorten the lifespan of the cover.
Estimated Period of Use
Bamboo Powder
Depending on the total amount and type of food waste you add, the bamboo powder can be used
for about 3 months to 1 year.
When the food waste becomes difficult to decompose, replace the bamboo powder
with fresh powder and start again.
The used bamboo powder can be reused as compost.
*In areas where soil or compost is collected, please dry the used bamboo powder thoroughly
before putting it out for collection.
Inner Bag
Although it may become dirty from food waste, this does not affect its performance.
Please replace the inner bag every few years.
Cover
If holes, tears, or frayed seams appear, the cover will no longer function properly.
*The cover can be replaced, but we do not currently sell replacement covers.

Using Garbage-in Throughout the Seasons
Garbage-in relies on the natural power of microorganisms to decompose food waste.
Because it works with nature, the condition of the bamboo powder will vary depending
on the season and on the amount and type of food waste you add.
・Cold seasons: Insects are almost nonexistent, but decomposition becomes slower.
・Warm seasons: Decomposition is smooth, but insects are more likely to appear.
If insects do appear, please deal with them each time.
It’s best to find them early, so keep an eye on the composter during warmer months.
There may be times when you need to do a little extra work beyond your regular routine,
